When holi came to my place the other day, she saw the bunch of doilies I put by the window and said she liked it. Immediately I promised her to make her one if she wanted. When I asked her for more specifications, she picked the blue shaded thread from the ones I showed her but gave me total freedom to choose the pattern.
It took me 2 weeks to go through a few pattern books and decide the pattern and just a few hours to make one. In order to make sure the coaster is not only decorative but also usable, I crocheted two identical pieces together to make it thicker. I show holi later and she said it should be a pair otherwise the coaster would be too lonely. I only managed to make another one on May day. Fortunately I picked an interesting pattern so that it was still fun to repeat it for the 4th time. On the other hand, I confirmed again that I won’t fit in any types of craft business. 😛
The pattern consists of somehow filet-like stitches but it is not square. It would be more clear if I used solid colored threads as the original showed in the book. The piece is from a Japanese pattern book LACEWORK floral design, also frm the “Asahi Original” series. You can find some snapshots if you search picasa with these key words. 😉
