Although little K hasn’t show any interests to grab anything, I always feel very insecure to have her in the same room with those long sharp knitting needles, so I put my needles away after I finished the vest. It is much more comfortable to work with the large plastic crochet hooks with little K in my arms. (Maybe now I have good excuses to get a whole set of those interchangeable circulars.) Stay Positive

Being an extremely negative person who used to see only the bad aspects of everything, I felt a little ashamed of this title. On the other hand, this is meant to encourage myself to stay positive, especially when it comes to being a new parent.
Speaking of parenting, there are all kinds of discussions/news recently related to this controversial excerpt from Amy Chua’s new book. As a “victim” of really Chinese parenting, I wouldn’t do what Amy Chua did to my little K. Every child is an individual. There’s no one single method that works for everyone. What worked for my big sister gave me such a negative viewpoint of the world.

It was the coldest week here since I moved here. It was quite an active week for me, partly because of Bec’s short visit to town. She came back for her final defense and left 2 days after. The defense was no doubt successful. Accordingly, she’s got a big title now. I cannot find any excuses not to prepare something for this important event. I couldn’t decided until the week is finally approaching, when I still had at least 3 potential projects in front of me, not mentioning the ones being withdrew earlier. (Bec, I assure you that you don’t want to know what kind of weird things used to pop up in my mind.) Then, time constraint became an issue, which made the selection much simpler. *shy*Anyway, congratulations, Bec!

I got my first pair of shining embroidery scissors from Metz back in February. Since then, I’ve been worried about the cute sharp tips being damaged under all kinds of circumstances, not to mention things are falling off my desks almost everyday. I figured it would be nice if the scissors, especially the sharp tips, are better protected. And that is the source of this crochet project.
Sort of free patterns

Errata for the baby special issue of MCI came out today. Although they are not complete patterns, some people can certainly make use of them without looking at the original magazine. I got this issue on March 30 while I was waiting for my train in Metz. I finished reading it before I got to my room and became reluctant to open it again. It sort of disappointed me. I mean the cover has already been much worse than usual. The content inside doesn’t look any better than the cover, even though there are still some interesting parts. I guess I just had an extremely high expectation for MCI. 🙂
To Tat or To Crochet?

I was sort of surprised to find out the fancy Cluny leaves can also be achieved by tatting, so I pick up my doll needle to make a try. There is a very good tutorial on tatting the Cluny leaves with needles. Obviously, this is a technique I cannot master so easily. I repeated the angle pattern 3 times to get the two wings (more or less) symmetric. I am still hesitated to claim that I know how to do the leaf: more practice is definitely necessary before trying more serious patterns.

The pattern was drew by hands. I found two trivial/ignorable mistakes (at the beginning of the 4th and 5th round) in the pattern this morning. Hopefully the following description can help to sort it out. Please let me know if you find any mistakes, so I can improve the pattern.
Pattern for Yogurt Bottle Cozy

The bottom and the neck of the bottle are both slightly smaller than the body. The cozy are started from the bottom and finished at the neck.
Two plies of threads are used at the same time for the “textural” look. For round 1, 2, 4, 6, it’s the white thread with the light blue thread and for the others, it’s the light blue thread with shaded blue thread. A crochet hook of 3.25mm is used.
Template for Tshirt bookmark

The hanger turns to be the most “popular” part of the bookmark. More than one people asked me how/where did I get it. I didn’t use any punches or existing templates. The hangers were cut out from normal craft paper with my tiny scissor. As a matter of fact, the hangers are only partial as it is unnecessary to have complete ones.
