My thumb hurts after I spent almost 4 hours yesterday cutting this little kid. Fortunately, it looks much better than the pig I cut back in January. And, red is indeed a Chinese color. 🙂
Speaking of Chinese, I would like to introduce a new flickr group Chinese Crafts and Toys to you. You can find a lot of traditional Chinese crafts and toys in the pool. Some of them actually remind me of my joyful childhood. Anyone is welcomed to join and share.:-)
Let’s go back to my papercutting. The pattern is also a traditional one from a set of 12 Zodiac designs. You can find kids wearing hats of other zodiac animals in the same set. In case you cannot see it, in this piece, the little kid is wearing a piggie hat. The kid is holding two gold ingots, implying fortune, with his/her hands. On the cloth, there is a variant form of the Chinese character “福”, which means blessing, happiness and good luck. This character appears in Chinese traditional patterns quite frequently.
It will be a gift for a Chinese senior here. I hope she would like it. 🙂
