Light and shadow

I have been thinking to make one of these since I saw mizusugi’s ribbon ornaments. J and I had a discussion about how hers should be made and came to a conclusion that it must be made up of several small identical parts to be stringed together into a ball.

I was rather expecting something made by sort of weaving and insertion. After many messy experiments, I finally came up with a star that doesn’t look too bad. The paper strips were still from the same magazine as the crab and the basket set. I think it can make great accessories as Francesca’s.

No wonder Flickr is a place full of inspirations and I am never tired of being amazed. Here are some great projects I collected recently from Flickr.

Trying to catch up

March 8, 2008 at 10:30 pm | In Craft - Inspirations, Craft - People, Craft - Websites | No Comments

I didn’t have much chances to get online during the vacation. Even when there is an internet access, many craft websites, including my own blog, are not accessible from China, not to mention the lags. I simply gave up my daily online reading in the first week. Accordingly, there are hundreds of unread blog posts when I came back. It took me quite a while to scan through them. Regardless of the boring “voluntine’s” projects, there are definitely something interesting I have missed. Here are some:

A lot of dolls

Although there are many other amazing doll pictures you can find on the internet, it is my first time to see such a delicate doll that is made of felt. For me, felting represents an art either cute or warm and cozy, but certainly differing from what is called delicacy. Maggie Iacono’s dolls changed my viewpoint with ease. All her dolls are so sweet that I just wish I could make one myself in the future. Since the chance is less than 0.001%, I would rather spent a few time clicking around the website. My another favorite among her gorgeous dolls is Liesel.

“The exams for this year” are finished, but I have been sort of trapped in a working-hard me and couldn’t get out of it immediately after the exams. We are going to another city to visit a friend tomorrow. I hope this would help. :P

No doubt one simple project is not enough to really master the skills of needle tatting. This time, I made a butterfly with my doll needle.

Some Gnome Fever

I was a little upset for no reason. Every girl gets upset like this sometimes, I guess. I don’t wanna do any crafting, and sketching became the first thing I can think of. I can finally start the first page of my “new” sketchbook, which was bought 2 years ago.

Needlework without a needle

It is probably the fastest and the longest scarf I’ve ever made. This project was started on Monday, when I was making Cha-siu (a.k.a. Barbecued pork). After spending a few hours on Tuesday and Wednesday when I was watching movies in the evening, and I finished it (1.5m long) last night, before the movie is over. :D

Is she Momotaro?

August 8, 2007 at 11:34 am | In Craft - Books, Craft - Misc, Craft - People | 1 Comment

もも たろう is one of my favorite Japanese stuffed animal designers. The name seems to be pseudo as ももたろうis the name of a popular hero from Japanese folklore. It’s probably the reason I couldn’t find much information about this designer (probably a group of designers). It’s hard to find a right query for any search engines. (hmm…..I started to wonder if ChaCha has any Japanese speakers in their supports. Their engine doesn’t work with Japanese so well anyway. ) Another reason is most of her/his books were published at least 10 years ago, in which years Internet was just invented. Nevertheless, lack of information won’t stop me from admiring the nice cute softies in the books. It possibly makes these cute stuffed animals more attractive…. :-D (Please tell me if you know more about this Momotaro, say websites, blogs, etc. :-))
