Weekend “Entertainment”

I am so exhausted after a whole week going back and forth between two countries. This weekend has to be work-free! Therefore, I carried on with the project I started this week on the train. It is probably going to be my largest knitting project if I can finish it, but who knows how long it would takes. I am also not sure whether I will dare to wear it or not coz I don’t really like the color. 0.39 cent for 100g acrylic yarn is a little hard to resist.

Melting down

Finals are coming in a week. So many things happened in parallel. Everything is in such a mess. I’m so frustrated.
It makes me feel a little better staring at my homemade double-ended knitting needles….hmm……
Everything’s in Progress

I took the pictures on Tuesday morning but didn’t manage to type anything until now, now even a short post. And…..this post will be short.
Hello from the North

We arrived the old city before midnight. The B&B is very comfortable. The distance from the railway station to the guesthouse seems to be much longer than we expected….
The weather is nice today. I got up very early. Chubbey has already started stitching.
Here is a snapshot of the WIP.

Slow down

Spring is just around the corner, but I am still working slowly on my knitting project: a pair of wrist warmers.
The stitches must look clumsy for knitting experts. I am a slow knitter. Although such a wrist warmer is probably the simplest knitting project, it took me the whole day to finish only one. Mr. Y kept saying “you knit really slowly” while I was working on it. Anyhow, I hope it could be a good start so that I can start some joyful knitting projects later on. I still have Nicky Epstein’s books in my list.
Work in progress…..

When I was working on my assignment today, there are always something tempting me , such as snacks, TV, internet….and crafts!
My brain jumped out of schoolworks right after I finished the 1.5-hour presentation on last Thursday. I’ve been “sleepwalking” since then. I spent at least two and a half evening playing a naive video game. Finally I realize today that I have to do something for the assignment before the weekend is over.
As I was not in a good mood doing anything but playing videogames, I didn’t do much crafting as I expected before the presentation either. However, I started a project before I fell into video games again. *shy*
Hopefully, this will be the present for Jenniffer’s party…..
Good luck, bad luck
September 19, 2006 at 4:45 pm | In All My Sketches, All My WIP, Misc. | 1 CommentYeah, I am sort of fatalistic, believing there is always something bad coming when something really good happened to me. It’s proved true again.
It took me just half an hour (including the waiting time!) to have my visa extended for two years. Afterward, hubby and me went to the bank for my blocked debitcard. The lady from the branch is so nice finding some other problems in our account and having fixed them all. At this moment, it’s too much for me…..
Just a few hours later I found out I cannot upload any pictures to flickr! It said 100% of my limit is used. It’s so weird I haven’t uploaded any pictures since last Thursday when only 1% had been used. I was so happy with flickr and actually started considering a Pro account someday. Now, it’s no longer on my wish list any more.
Let’s forget about the bad things and talk about my recent projects.

I did some painting last night. I tried to paint some fancy fishes but they turned out to be like cooked. >othe frame I got the other day and hanged on the wall. The existing nail on the wall appears to be too high over there, but I’m just too lazy to find a new one. ![]()

As for my crocheted blanket, it’s already over 60cm x 60cm after I watched the fourth episode of Prison Break. The picture below shows how it looks like right now. My goal’s to make it at least 1m x 1m. I hope I have enough yarn for it.

P.S. on Sept 20, my flickr is recovered, but I haven’t got any explanations yet.
WIP week
September 14, 2006 at 9:29 pm | In All My Sketches, All My WIP | No CommentsI guess some of you might have been wondering where I have been. I didn’t have so much time for crafting lately due to my “heavy” workload….Besides 8h/day at work, I spent a little too much in watching old TV series this week……1983’s Condor Heroes, 1987’s Story of the Stone and 2004’s House MD in last 4 days.

Indeed, there is something I can do when watching TV. It’s crocheting! I got some soft acrylic yarns at half price last weekend and the color matches our “sofa” very much. Since winter is just a few months later, it would be very nice to have a blanket when watching TV in cold weather. ^^ Well, at the same time, it means I got a few months to finish this project.

I also tried a little painting recently. I haven’t used any (aquarelle) watercolors after primary school. So far as I rememberd, nobody taught me how to paint with watercolors. The art teacher from my (junior) high school prefers gouache, which colors are easier for us to “control”. He required us to use gouache in class and for homeworks, usually some color exercises. I was kind of brainwashed, telling myself watercolor is just for pro. On the other hand, I actually never used this kind of “solid” watercolor before, thereby I was quite nervous when I decided to start. Honestly, I stared at the colors and the cup of clear water for almost one hour before I can take up the pen.

At last, I did it. Even the touches are naive, the simple picture looks dirty, and even I was in a mess, I’m still satisfied, as it’s my first move. I hoped I can get used to the way handling colors. It’s so different from gouache and acrylic. Good luck for me! ![]()
Bad experience plus one

It has been quite a while since last time I spent more than 2 hours outside home. And I was waiting in the foreigner office for almost 4 hours without having my resident permit extended!
We arrived the office before it is open. I already got bad feelings when we found out the lady who is usually in charge of my file is on vacation. That lady is the best and the nicest. I was assigned to another one. There are only 3 people assigned to the same clerk before me, but it took us more than 3 hours to get in the room. The picture above shows how long I’ve been waiting there. Another clerk had processed 7-8 cases before my number was called.
Overtime waiting is just the beginning. The clerk start to act picky immediately after she got my passport. Things got worse when she read the admission letter. She called the university to confirm my status, which is already shown in her computer. After the call, she simply refused to issue the extension. She hadn’t even open my file yet! My friend, the interpreter, said to her that he got his own resident permit when he was not registered in the school. Her reply was that it just didn’t work in HER way. She also insisted to make a copy of my admission letter after the rejection. I was really confused….are the rules/laws all defined by her?
I could always print out the rules and mention existing cases when I discussed with officials in Canada. I used to obtain my new health card after I showed my print-outs to the clerk who almost refused to issue me one. Obviously, things do not work in this way in Germany. Each visa official has its own way to explain the law. Most officials in this city are just unhappy about foreigners staying here.
What an unfriendly place!
