A friend asked whether I took Chubbey to France yesterday. The answer is no. I only traveled with her, which is obviously not the case for this moment. It’s been such a different summer for both of us, but unfortunately it’s been officially over. I felt lucky that I had left Chubbey in a warm and cozy place after a few drops dripped from my ceiling this afternoon.
Everything is strange today…..I hope the moon is still a full moon tonight.

The new semester starts and my passion for crafting suddenly disappeared. Anyway, I still check Flickr and my Google Reader daily so I’ve got quite a few projects I like. The above mosaic is made from my recent Flickr favorites.
When I said it seemed the weather is better here than in SB last Friday, the professor’s response was “oh, come on, it’s not that different.” And he’s actually right. After many days of wonderful sunshine, it starts raining on our first day of this semester, raining just like it is in SB! It makes it extremely difficult to take a picture inside the room this morning when I was expecting some sunshine.
I finally figured out how to break the evil closed loop of getting internet access: McDonald’s! Can you imagine? The truth is one of the McDonald’s here provides free wireless access so that I can activate my school account which is needed for internet access in the student residence. The bad thing is it’s not real internet access…..no instant messenger, no ssh, nothing but http…..in other words, there is no way for me to work remotely in the dorm.
Anyway, I am online again!
Starting in a new school is nothing funny. There are so many things to go through. Sometimes, the procedure formed a loop so that I have no idea where to start. For instance, I need to register in the university while the registration is done online, however you cannot access the internet or computers on campus and in student residence without your student ID which can be only obtained after you are registered. There are more such examples I had faced in the past few days. Hopefully, I can sort out everything at the end. Mr Y’s prediction is it would be time to come back when all the administrative problems are solved. I am a little more optimistic than him. I think I can get everything done just before the first final exam.:-D
I’ve been longing for a knitting spool (tricotin in French?), also called knitting nancy, or some knitting looms for a long time, but I could not persuade myself to buy one. My dad, who has much more clever fingers than I do, used to promise me making me one after I finish my thesis at least 3 years ago, however both of us forgot about this when I actually submitted my thesis. (It happens between my dad and me a lot. I can make a long list of my dad’s promises. ) Not living with my parents any more, I have to count on myself for tools now. It took a few experiments to search for the right materials, especially I don’t have many handy tools. Finally I came up with this one, which only requires common office supplies: a few paper clips and one transparent tape roll.

It has been a few months since I made Chubbey. It becomes really tempting to make stuffed animals once in a while, so I started thinking of such a project since the weekend.
